Taylor Swift Announces ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ as Next Rerecorded Album

During her sixth Los Angeles performance of her Eras Tour at SoFi Stadium, the singer made the announcement.

The next re-recorded album from Taylor Swift’s catalog has been announced.

Swift revealed Wednesday that 1989 (Taylor’s Version) will release on Oct. 27. The singer announced the news during the sixth night of her Eras Tour shows at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

Her singles “Shake It Off,” “Blank Space,” “Style,” and “Wildest Dreams” were all included on the 2014 album, which at that moment had 13 tracks in its regular version and 16 songs in its d

According to Swift’s website, the rerecorded version will include 21 tracks, including five never-before-heard songs from The Vault.
“Surprise!! Taylor Swift’s version of 1989 is on its way to you, Swift posted it on social media along with the album’s cover. “The 1989 album fundamentally altered my life, so it gives me great joy to announce that my rendition of it will be released on October 27. Since the five songs from the Vault are so incredible, I have to say that this is my favorite re-record that I have ever made. I find it hard to believe they were ever abandoned. However, not for long.

1989 had long been thought to be the next album from her back catalog to be reissued, according to fans. Swift has released several Easter egg hints for the album throughout the years, including the rerecorded versions of her singles “Wildest Dreams” and “This Love (Taylor’s Version),” which were featured in the films Spirit and The Summer I Turned Pretty on Prime Video, respectively. Additionally, she hinted at a new version of her 1989 song “This Love (Taylor’s Version).”

After SoFi Stadium posted a tweet welcoming Swift before the start of her six shows, rumors grew even further. One of the images posted features a lifeguard station with the words “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” over it against a beach background.

With a subliminal hint in her most recent “I Can See You” music video, Swift herself further fueled the fire by including a previously unreleased song from her Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) album. The two actors who help Swift escape from a bank vault in the music video, which also features Joey King and Taylor Lautner, stand in for Swift’s quest to regain her music. Fans assumed this referenced 1989 (Taylor’s Version) being the upcoming film because their escape car is seen driving toward a bridge with the sign “1989 TV” in the center.

1989 was the sixth album to ever achieve this accomplishment, according to Billboard, and it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and spent the entire first year in the Top 10.

Swift’s rerecordings have gained a lot of popularity since they were made public. Fearless (Taylor’s Version), which Swift published in April of last year, debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 chart. Songs “From the Vault,” which included duets with country singers Maren Morris and Keith Urban, were also included on the re-recorded album. Swift worked with Chris Stapleton, Phoebe Bridgers, and Ed Sheeran on Red (Taylor’s Version). In the meantime, the singer collaborated with Fall Out Boy and Paramore’s Hayley Williams for the “from the Vault” songs “Castles Crumbling” and “Electric Touch” on Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).

Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), Midnights, Lover, and Folklore helped Swift become the first living artist in nearly 60 years to have at least four albums at the same time in the top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart, becoming the singer’s 12th No. 1 album on the Billboard chart.

Following Scooter Braun’s acquisition of Big Machine Records and her back library of master recordings, the singer first stated in 2019 that she would rerecord her songbook to own her masters. Only Taylor Swift’s 2006 album and 2017’s Reputation have not yet been released.

Swift performed six nights at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium on Wednesday to conclude the U.S. leg of her current Eras Tour. Swift did reveal this week that she was going to add more North American tour dates in November 2024. Swift will travel to South America after that, and 2024 will begin in Asia and Australia. Before making a second trip to North America for more performances, she is scheduled to spend the summer of 2024 traveling Europe.
